What Causes Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Believe it or not, this is a question that every single individual that suffers from the disease asks and does not find a concrete answer. The exact cause is actually unknown but different theories have been listed by some specialists. What causes rheumatoid arthritis is a question that, if answered, would mean a break through in medicine. We are still far from an answer but we do have some results highlighted in research.

There are a number of diseases that are passed down from generation to generation but in our case this is not a cause for rheumatoid arthritis development. On the other hand, the gene that causes rheumatoid arthritis is more likely to appear in families that have members that suffer from the condition. The interesting aspect is that not anyone that has this gene will develop the disease.

Different scientists from around the world are trying to figure out why our immune system ends up attacking our healthy body tissues. Also, medicine is constantly researched in order to have weapons to fight the painful joint swelling that takes place. The good news is that, as time passes, we keep getting valuable information that might lead to learning what really causes rheumatoid arthritis and how it can be cured, although we are still far from that moment.

Many universities from around the world are investing a lot of money in researching what causes rheumatoid arthritis and different aspects linked to it. Even learning who will develop a mild or serious form of the disease or finding out how the immune system attacks joints would be an important break through. Research is currently done on both the examples mentioned above and there are signs that results are soon to appear. On the other hand, learning what causes rheumatoid arthritis is not enough. We also need to understand how to control and fight the disease. Joint tissue is affected and it needs to get repaired or at least see how it can regenerate.

Until we get to find out what causes rheumatoid arthritis and what we can do to cure it, all we can do is consult a doctor and see what is to be done in order to at least make it possible for us to live with the disease. The pain experienced is quite big and every patient needs to understand that rest and exercise is very important plus a close collaboration with a specialist.
