Arthritis Pain Relief through Acupuncture
Thursday, March 6th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedPeople suffering from arthritis pain are constantly looking for ways to relief it and this is why so many individuals are turning towards alternative treatment solutions like magnet therapy or Elmore Oil. One of the most talked about method to relieve arthritis pain stands in acupuncture, a technique long known and utilized by specialists around the world in various pain relief treatments.
Acupuncture is considered to be an alternative arthritis pain relief cure and it was studied extensively. So far, there is no proof that it aids in changing the evolution of arthritis but can be helpful in managing pain and in reducing the associated stress factor found in living with a chronic condition. Anyone suffering from arthritis will tell that it is a highly stressful condition to deal with and pain associated with it can be unbearable.
Although there were different studies conducted concerning acupuncture and its effect on joint pain, all we can really rely on is when dealing with osteoarthritis. A huge study was conducted on a four year period and the results can be viewed in the December 2004 edition of the Annals of Internal Medicine. It was highlighted that Chinese acupuncture did aid in reducing felt pain and did improve joint functions in different patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis. Benefits were also noticed in addition to those obtained from regular medication treatment.
On the other hand, we also have another study that was conducted in 2006 that found no difference between patients that received acupuncture as treatment and others with a sham procedure. This can only lead us to one conclusion. We do get mixed reports by various studies so this has to mean that acupuncture is a good arthritis pain relief solution in only some cases. Unfortunately, there is no way to determine whether acupuncture will aid in your particular case or not. You might be lucky or you might end up not seeing any benefit. The correct way to handle the situation is sticking to regular pain management medication while undergoing acupuncture treatment. If you notice that pain is going away you can try lowering the dosage used with medication and notice if the same pain relief is obtained. You also need to understand that this method of mixing the two needs to be supervised by your doctor. He/she can guide you and draw conclusions based on various tests and manifestation of arthritis once hit with medication and acupuncture at the same time.
